Marriage equality was achieved in Australia today. Dean Smith’s bill passed in parliament without amendment. What this means is that same sex couples will be able to show their love and commitment through marriage at last. It means that the Australian people strongly supported this more tolerant and inclusive path. Amendments – which would have enabled continued discrimination – were not passed.This showed that our politicians did listen to what Australia wanted.
